Mt Fuji: Tour or DIY?
The Fuji Kyuko train (Fujisan limited express) goes directly from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko Station in about 90 minutes. From Kawaguchiko you can catch local buses to most Fuji Five Lakes area attractions. DIY is cheap (¥2,700–3,500 return) and flexible. Tours add the logistics coordination — transport from your hotel, a guide at some stops, and the ropeway ticket — and remove the stress of working out which bus goes where.

What You'll Actually See
Mt Fuji isn't one view — it's several. The classic shot from Lake Kawaguchi's shoreline (near the Kawaguchiko Music Forest) with the red Fujisan Kagura Bridge in the foreground. The Chureito Pagoda staircase — 300 steps up from the road, and the view from the top is worth the climb. The 5th Station (at 2,300m) if you're doing the climbing route, which is accessible from late July to early September.
